Area Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Officers state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then located numerous other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report early analysis show the liquid was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; authorities are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in association with the event," they added.
Local authorities stated they were working "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the public for information.
A senior political figure said the vandalism rendered him stunned and needed to be solved promptly.
"This incident hits the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on social media, recalling the murder of nine people by a assailant aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
